Notebooks for every fan

Choose a favourite character to motivate children to write. Tab notebooks help organise subjects, A5 notebooks fit in school bags, and the Toy Story plush notebook adds a soft, fun touch. The Harry Potter diary notebook includes a pen and torch for secret writing.

Uses for notebooks

Use them for homework, spelling lists, story writing, diaries, doodling or planning. Teachers also like notebooks for reading logs and revision notes. Adults use them for lists, journals and hobbies.

Choosing a notebook

Check size, page count and paper type. Lined paper suits writing, while blank pages are better for drawing. Look for sturdy covers that survive school bags.

Gift ideas

Notebooks are inexpensive gifts for birthdays, Christmas and end of term. Pair with a pen set or stationery set for a complete present.

Encourage writing

Suggest writing a short entry each day, starting a story or keeping a reading journal. Regular practice builds confidence and imagination.

Consider using separate notebooks for different purposes, such as spellings, reading, creative writing and drawing, so that everything stays organised. Colour-coded covers or tabs make it easy for children to find the right book quickly when it is time for homework.

Buying a few spare notebooks in advance means you are never caught out when one fills up mid-term. Keep them in a drawer at home, and consider pairing each notebook with a pen so that creative ideas can be captured straight away.
